13th Annual Chinook Symposium for Chemistry and Biochemistry – October 11, 2019

Call for Abstracts

The Symposium is sponsored by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Lethbridge. The mandate of the symposium and associated poster prize is to recognize undergraduate and graduate students performing original research in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. All students who have participated in research in the Department in the past year are encouraged to participate.

Each participating student may present ONE poster only. Eligible students may make an oral presentation AND present a poster.

Registration OPENS August 19 and CLOSES September 13, 2019

Email completed registration forms to  chinook2019@uleth.ca

From 10:00 a.m. to noon, there will be oral presentations by students who were lead authors of papers published in the previous year. While there are no prizes associated with these presentations, we look forward to taking this opportunity to recognize students whose efforts have culminated in a research publication.

In the afternoon, poster presenters will compete, if eligible, for poster prizes (first place $200, second $100) in the following categories:

  • Chinook Poster Prize - B.Sc. level
  • Chinook Poster Prize - M.Sc. level
  • Chinook Poster Prize - Ph.D. level (first prize only)

Eligibility for undergraduate level competitions – Authors must be currently enrolled in the B.Sc. program, or have completed their degree requirements no earlier than the Spring term 2019, and have conducted the research presented at the Symposium under the supervision or co-supervision of a member of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Eligibility for the M.Sc. level competitions – Authors must be currently enrolled in the M.Sc. program, or have entered the Ph.D. program after the Spring term 2019, and have conducted the research presented at the Symposium under the supervision of a member of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Eligibility for the Ph.D. level competition - Authors must be currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program as of the Spring term 2019, and have conducted the research presented at the Symposium under the supervision of a member of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Trainees not eligible for the poster prizes are also encouraged to present a poster in this celebration of research.

Prizes are sponsored in part by the Canadian Journal of Chemistry.
