Rotaract Club benefits Cancer Society

The University of Lethbridge Rotaract Club raised more than $12,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society as a result of their 2nd Annual Youth Relay for Life event.

A total of 51 students endured a 12-hour stretch of walking, running, dancing, skipping and so on around the 1st Choice Savings Centre track this past weekend, racking up pledged dollars with every successful loop.

"Our event brought students from all walks of life together," says Relay for Life Chair Eva Gorny. "It showed everyone that many of us are touched by a common thread - lives touched with cancer, and the determination to make a difference. Knowing how much our event means to those students, and to their families, friends and supporters, is well worth the work we put into it."

The Youth Relay for Life debuted last year and was the first of its kind in Western Canada. Since then, both the University of Calgary and University of Alberta have hosted relays.

"It is certainly my hope that events like this continue," adds Gorny. "Youth can and definitely do make a difference in their communities."
