To Members of the University Community:
I am writing today with an update on the progress of the Vice-President (Research) Appointment Committee. The first round of candidate interviews has concluded, and the committee has narrowed the search to two final candidates.
Due to the significant profile of these candidates in post-secondary and innovation communities, there is a need to maintain a highly confidential process. Following a thorough discussion of this point, members of the Committee have concluded that it is in the best interest of the University to conduct all aspects of the final interviews in confidence. The Committee believes that such a closed process will increase the probability of a successful outcome.
Members of the Appointment Committee would like to thank everyone who assisted the search process by submitting their thoughts on the qualities necessary for a successful candidate. Feedback received from our community has greatly aided the work of the Appointment Committee. This same feedback will serve to inform the process and questions in our second round of interviews.
The Appointment Committee follows the composition and procedures as indicated within the General Faculties Council Bylaws, and is comprised of 21 members elected by the constituent groups of our University Community.
I look forward to providing a further update in the coming weeks.
Sincerely,
Mike Mahon, PhD
President & Vice-Chancellor
