A tribute to Clint Dunford

On behalf of the University of Lethbridge, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to Gwen and the family and friends of the Honourable Clint Dunford — a tireless advocate for southern Alberta and our University.

Clint will be remembered for the contributions he made as the MLA for Lethbridge-West and for serving as a Minister of the Crown. Notably, he will be remembered for the contributions he made to benefit the post-secondary sector as Minister of Advanced Education. He was instrumental as a champion of the Campus Alberta concept — an initiative which harnessed the collective capacity of Alberta’s post-secondary institutions and created new pathways of learning for thousands of college and university students.

Following his political career, Clint continued to support our community through the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Cancer Society's Walk for Life and the Dhillon School of Business advisory board. Clint’s knowledge of government processes, business acumen and the willingness to give his time and talent greatly benefitted many southern Alberta organizations and made us stronger as a community.

In 2011, the University of Lethbridge awarded Clint an honorary degree in recognition of his service to our province and sector. That same year he was honoured by the Dhillon School (formerly Faculty of Management) at its annual fundraising dinner, where a scholarship was created in his name.

In recognition of the many contributions Clint made to our community, to southern Alberta and beyond, the University will lower its flag on Thursday, Oct. 21.
