Science and Academic Building (SAB) Parking update

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

Along with creating a hub for science, connecting to the larger community is one of the key goals of the new Science and Academic Building. With the imminent move of faculty and staff into the new building and the public opening planned for September 2019, Campus Mobility Services has configured parking to allow for maximum access to the SAB.

Campus Mobility has designated Lot S, the lot adjacent to the north entrance of the SAB, as a Pay and Park lot with a capacity of approximately 80 stalls. The Pay and Park hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  The lot will also have five stalls designated as Accessibility Stalls, along with necessary service-vehicle access. This allocation as a Pay and Park lot will support the anticipated high volume of traffic to the building and will allow for a reasonably consistent rotation of vehicles throughout the day to accommodate as many as possible with close access to the SAB.

To meet the expected high demand for permit stalls in the vicinity of the SAB, Campus Mobility will open 80 parking stalls in a new Lot K, located west of the new building in the fenced area currently housing the construction trailers. The construction trailers will be removed from the lot this summer.

Lot K will be designated as a permit-controlled, employee-only parking lot. The annual permit fee for this lot will be $525, a cost that reflects its proximity to several buildings and its unpaved surface. Over the summer, the surface will be reconditioned and compacted so mud won’t be an issue in wet weather, as well as allow for snow removal. The existing fence will remain in place, with pedestrian gates to provide access in all directions. In addition, necessary pathways from Lot K to the new SAB will be installed during the summer, creating an average walk time of about three minutes to the nearby buildings.

Lot N, located east of the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience (CCBN) building, also provides convenient parking for the SAB. Over the summer, pathways and lighting from Lot N to the SAB will be installed.

As an employee of the University of Lethbridge, we wanted you to be aware of the upcoming developments in parking well in advance of the permit renewal deadline later this month to give you time to consider your preferred parking option. Your renewal email for the upcoming academic year will be sent Monday, April 15, 2019. Instructions to switch your parking permit, if you wish to do so, will be included in the email information. Stall allocation will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
