Purpose
The purpose of SAGE’s Secondary Data Use Grant is to ensure that existing datasets can be fully utilized to generate new research findings and encourage new analytics methods. Another goal of the grant is to build capacity and collaborative opportunities amongst trainees, researchers, community organizations, and policymakers.
The Secondary Data Use Grant provides five successful applicants $5,000 to undertake research utilizing research datasets stored and managed by SAGE.
Dataset currently stored at SAGE include the following:
- Alberta Adverse Childhood Experiences Survey 2013 (ACE 2013)
- Alberta Benchmark Survey 2008: What Adults Know about Childhood Development
- Alberta Pregnancy Outcomes and Nutrition (APrON)* Study: a longitudinal pregnancy cohort – Study site
- All Our Babies/Families (AOB/F) Study: a longitudinal pregnancy cohort
- Second Provincial Benchmark Survey 2013: What Adults Know About Child Development (Benchmark 2013)
- What Albertans Know about Youth Mental Health 2010 Survey (YMH 2010)
- What Albertans Know about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders 2011 Survey (FASD 2011)
- What Albertans Know about Maternal Mental Health 2012 Survey (MMH 2012)
*Applicants interested in using APrON data are advised to contact SAGE staff as soon as possible BEFORE the application deadline. As part of APrON’s Term of Use applicants MUST consult with the APrON team during proposal development, SAGE will facilitate this collaboration. Non-compliant applications will not be considered for funding.
Application and Deadline
The online application and proposal form is due February 27, 2017 at 4:00pm.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Demonstrate that they and their research team (if applicable) have the content and analytic skill, knowledge, and resources to carry out the proposed research
- Be affiliated with an institution eligible to hold funds from PolicyWise (i.e. post-secondary institution or an institution that meets the Accountability Standards of PolicyWise)
- Be Alberta-based
- Must be able to obtain ethical approval from a recognized ethical review board. Ethical approval is not required at the time of application submission, but appropriate ethical approvals must be in place to commence this work and be valid for the duration of the grant.
