The University of Lethbridge's Global Drums program was recently recognized with the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) Outstanding Chapter Award at the PAS International Convention in San Antonio, Texas.

The PAS Outstanding Chapter Award recognizes individual chapters who have increased membership and provided percussion events, newsletters and experiences that are beneficial for the continued music education of all chapter members.

U of L Global Drums was selected out of 84 international, state and provincial Percussive Arts Society Chapters for its outreach and education activities in percussion.

Global Drums presented a number of clinics, performances, residencies, festivals, etc. on campus, in surrounding communities, across Alberta and around the world. Their travels included stops in Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Japan and the US (Indianapolis and Hawaii).

"I would like to give special recognition to our fantastic student chapter, the ULSU PAS Club who played a large role in making many of these activities possible," says director Adam Mason. "I am extremely proud that our percussion family is being recognized for its commitment to education and outreach both globally and here at home, and for connecting Alberta's incredibly diverse percussion community."
