The University of Lethbridge will introduce monthly testing of its Emergency Notification System on VoIP telephones beginning Thursday, Mar. 26, 2015.
This testing is being conducted to introduce the University community to the Emergency Notification System and will include all VoIP telephones located on the Lethbridge campus.
What to expect
The entire campus community will receive two test messages. The first message will last for approximately 15 seconds, and a second message will last for approximately three seconds.
If you are on or near a VoIP telephone anywhere on campus, you will hear the test message in one of two ways:
- If your telephone is not in use, the test message will broadcast from your telephone speaker.
- If you are using a telephone, you will hear the test message on the receiver. The person you are speaking with will NOT hear the message and you will not be disconnected, you will be able to continue your conversation.
The testing, which is scheduled to take place between 12:05 and 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 26, 2015, will begin with a short beep, followed by the first message:
- “Attention! Attention! This is a test. I repeat, this is a test of the emergency communication system on campus, DO NOT TAKE ANY ACTION. This is only a test to familiarize the University community with the emergency communication system.” (approximate time 15 seconds)
- “The test is now completed, thank you for your cooperation.” (approximate time 3 seconds)
Following the test, no action is required. If you experience any phone problems, please report these to the IT Solutions Centre (2490).
These tests will continue on a monthly basis and be posted on the Notice Board and included in UWeekly.
