What is this notice about?
Facilities will be completing a required electrical system upgrade to the emergency power distribution system at University Hall. While we do not anticipate any service disruption we are notifying you because this effects the emergency power distribution system and there is a small chance that IT services could be disrupted as part of this change.
When will this occur?
The electrical systems upgrade will occur on Tuesday July 29th, 2014 and will start at 6:00 am and should be completed by 6:00 pm that evening.
How does this affect me?
While we don't anticipate any outages associated with this change you are encouraged to use appropriate due diligence when working with IT systems that day to avoid possible issues. The high risk of service disruption will be at the beginning and end of this change when the power is being switched from main to backup so if possible avoid starting long running IT processes from 6:00 am to 8:00 am and from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Throughout the day use extra caution when working with your IT files and system saving your work early and often to avoid possible data loss.
Why is this happening?
The emergency power distribution system in University Hall requires upgrades to continue to function correctly and to meet the needs of clients located in that building and campus wide. The University’s primary server room has the potential to be impacted by this change and, while unlikely, could temporarily lose power which would disrupt all IT services on all University of Lethbridge Campuses. This project has been carefully planned to minimize the risks to the institution and this notice is just being sent as a precaution.
