Dear Campus Community,
This afternoon (Mar. 17, 2020), the Government of Alberta announced it will declare a state of emergency under the Public Health Act.
Starting tomorrow (Mar. 18), we strongly encourage all non-essential employees to work from home wherever possible. This measure is in response to the most recent information available to us about this rapidly changing situation.
This will be difficult for many of the academic and administrative units on campus, but we must do our part to respond appropriately to this extraordinary public health situation. Managers are asked to work with their teams to identify how they can move as much of their operations as possible to a remote work model, to identify essential on-campus positions, and if work can be rotated to have as few people as possible on campus. We are not restricting people from coming to campus, but we also want to limit this as much as possible. As such, we encourage eliminating in-person meetings whenever possible. Resources will be available to assist with remote access and remote meetings.
We understand there will be many questions. We are working on an FAQ to be available tomorrow.
For today, we simply ask people to not attend campus beginning Mar. 18 unless they hear otherwise from their supervisor.
Campus will remain open and thus accessible, other than those operations in which closure notifications have been or will be made. Further updates will be posted to www.uleth.ca/COVID-19. We encourage our community to frequently refer to this website throughout the evening and in the days ahead to stay apprised of this rapidly changing situation.
Sincerely,
Mike Mahon, PhD
President and Vice-Chancellor
