The University of Lethbridge extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of Suzanne Lavoie, who passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at the age of 58.

Lavoie worked as a caretaker for five years with Housing Services before joining the staff at Facilities three-and-a-half years ago.

“She will be greatly missed; everyone really liked her,” says Judy Jaeger, caretaking manager. “She had a great personality and so many talents. Suzanne was very articulate and well-read.”

As a caretaker, Lavoie worked in the Wellness Centre, Library and Markin Hall. She also held a job at Rockerman’s Service Centre in the Students’ Union building. In addition, she was a Fine Arts student in drama. She loved to sew and worked as a Student Costume Shop Assistant.

“We became friends through her work in the Costume Shop,” says Leslie Robison-Greene, a retired faculty member of the drama department. “She was one of the kindest people I ever met; she was always more concerned about others than herself.”

Robison-Greene says Lavoie had wide-ranging interests and remained curious about world happenings until her last days.

“Even to the very end, there was no self-pity. She was very positive,” Robison-Greene says.

A memorial service has been scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. at Martin Brothers Funeral Home located at 610 4 St. S.

The U of L will lower its flag on that day in honour of Lavoie.
