The University of Lethbridge expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Kay Kerr (LLD ’04) who passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the age of 95.
Kerr was a longtime supporter of the U of L and served on its Senate and Board of Governors. Her most recent gift to the University was a treasure trove of collectibles for the U of L theatre department, delivered when Kerr moved from her home to a lodge and had to downsize.
Kerr and her late husband Jack lived in Crowsnest Pass and owned four Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. Kay personally developed the gravy recipe still used by KFC, while she stayed in the home of Colonel Sanders. The Kerrs were world travellers and the collectibles they amassed included boxes of KFC memorabilia, a red velvet couch and a vintage camera. Some of the items she donated to the U of L have already made their stage debut, expanding the drama department and benefitting students in the process.
A service is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, at 1 p.m. at Fantin’s Funeral Chapel at 13461-20 Avenue in Blairmore.
Condolences may be sent to Kay’s daughter, Dr. Ann Kerr, Box 120, Water Valley, Alberta, T0M 2E0. She can be reached by phone at 403-637-2065.
A full obituary notice can be found online at Fantin's Funeral Chapel.
