The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Karen Campbell, who passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at the age of 65.
A committed artist and teacher, Campbell taught studio courses in the Department of Art at the University of Lethbridge from 2000 to 2006. She also taught drawing, painting and ceramics in the broader Lethbridge community through classes at Casa. Throughout her life, she sustained an independent and vibrant visual art practice. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across Canada and resides in numerous private collections. An exhibition of Campbell's drawings, my lilac shadow, was presented at The Gallery at Casa in 2019.
Complementing, or perhaps fuelling, her work as an artist was her professional work over more than two decades as an interpretive guide at Waterton Lakes National Park with Parks Canada. She shared her experiences of the wilderness and backcountry with many friends and hiking partners and nurtured strong relationships with people and places across southern Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and the Yukon.
An obituary is available online at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home.
As no memorial service is planned, the University will lower its flags on Monday, Oct. 16.
