The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to Dr. Owen Holmes (DASc ’05), the University’s first dean of Arts & Science and vice-president (academic) emeritus, on the passing of his wife, Jean, at the age of 96.
The following information is taken from her obituary, which can be found online at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
Jean was born in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada with her parents when she was six years old. The family settled in Saskatchewan and, once she finished high school, Jean entered business school in Saskatoon and worked as a secretary in law offices and for the government. She joined her new husband, Owen, in Regina in 1955. After living a decade in Regina, the family moved to Lethbridge. Jean and Owen raised three daughters and became grandparents to seven.
At Jean’s request, no public funeral service will be held. In honour of Jean, the U of L will lower its flag on Friday, Aug. 2.
