The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Graham Steacy, who passed away on Monday, Dec. 12.
Steacy was father to Jim (BASc ’09), Sean and Heather. All three participated in Pronghorn Athletics when they attended the U of L. Jim is the most decorated Pronghorn athlete in history and was a two-time Olympic competitor in both weight and hammer throw. Sean was a champion at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) level and Heather, also a hammer thrower, has claimed three Canada West titles and two CIS titles. She attended the Olympics in London in 2012 and in Rio in 2016. His daughter-in-law, Ashley (Patzer) (BSc ’15), played rugby as a Pronghorn athlete. She also won a gold medal at the Pan American Games in 2015 and a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
Debby, Graham’s wife, was posthumously awarded the 2015 University of Lethbridge Volunteer Award. With all her children involved in U of L athletics, Debby willingly gave her time to fundraise through the Pronghorn Booster Club and Operation Red Nose was close to her heart. An obituary is available on the Cornerstone Funeral Home website.
No funeral service is planned. The U of L will lower its flag on Thursday, Dec. 22 in honour of Steacy.
