Condolence Notice — Geoffrey Massey

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

It is with sadness that the University of Lethbridge has learned of the passing of Geoffrey Massey, the business partner of noted architect Arthur Erickson, at the age of 96.

Erickson, the architect who designed the iconic University Hall, formed a partnership with Massey in 1963. Their projects include Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus and the MacMillan Bloedel Building. Their design for the U of L campus was considered radical at the time and it set the U of L apart in architecture. The partnership between Massey and Erickson ended in 1972, the same year University Hall officially opened.

Massey’s father, Raymond, was a movie star and his uncle, Vincent, was Canada’s governor-general from 1952 to 1959. The family also founded a farm equipment business, known first as Massey-Harris and later as Massey-Ferguson.

A full obituary is available on the Vancouver Sun website.
