Condolence Notice — Florence Senda

The University of Lethbridge extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Florence Senda, who passed away on Aug. 22 at the age of 93.

Florence and her husband, Yoshio (LLD ’89), were integral to building the sport of judo in Lethbridge and were the force behind bringing judo to the U of L, where they coached for more than 40 years. Yosh served as coach and manager of the U of L Judo Club and was instrumental in developing the U of L judo exchange program with Japan. In addition, the Sendas were honorees for the U of L Faculty of Management’s 22nd Annual Scholarship Fundraising Dinner in 2009. Florence, a fourth degree black belt, was inducted into the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.

An obituary is available at Christensen Salmon and a funeral service is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. at the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta located at 470-40 St. S. The U of L will lower its flag in honour of Florence.
