Condolence Notice — Dr. Robert T. Golembiewski

The University of Lethbridge extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Robert T. Golembiewski (LLD ’96), who recently passed away in Athens, Georgia.

Golembiewski earned international recognition for his work in organization development, public administration and job burnout. He was one of the most important contributors to the literature on management and his work earned him major awards. He wrote or edited nearly 100 books and authored 1,000 articles or more.

Born in New Jersey in 1932, Golembiewski went on to study at Princeton, Johns Hopkins and Yale University, graduating with master’s and doctoral degrees. After spending some time teaching at Princeton, Yale, the City College of New York and the University of Illinois, he was appointed associate professor of political science and management at the University of Georgia.

On numerous occasions, Golembiewski collaborated in joint research projects with colleagues at the U of L’s Faculty of Management. His roles as mentor and consultant significantly affected the quality of management research and teaching in Alberta, and the quality of life and performance of organizations in Alberta and the rest of Canada.

Golembiewski was also a much-sought-after consultant in the international arena and he was selected as a charter member of the Hall of Fame of the Academy of Management.

A celebration of life has been scheduled for Saturday, January 23 in Athens, Georgia.

The U of L flag will be lowered on Friday in Golembiewski's honour.
