The University of Lethbridge extends sincere sympathies to the family, friends and former colleagues of Professor Emeritus Dr. Kazuo Nakamura, who passed away on Jan. 5 at the age of 89.
Born in Japan in 1929, Nakamura obtained a doctoral degree in genetics at the University of Missouri in 1964 and a DSc in biology at Kyushu University in Japan. After teaching at Fukuoka University for a year, Nakamura came to the University of Lethbridge in 1969. He was a member of the Department of Biology until his retirement in 1994. Nakamura was actively involved in the U of L’s exchange program with Hokkai Gakuen University since its inception in 1982.
An obituary is available online at Salmon & Sons. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make a donation to scholarship funds through the U of L Advancement Office.
A service in memory of Nakamura is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. at the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta located at 470 40 St. S. The U of L will lower its flag that day in honour of Nakamura.
