The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bill Sharp, one of the U of L’s founding faculty members, who passed away on Friday, Feb. 12 at 78 years of age.

Sharp, who was born on the family farm at Bashaw, Alberta, had a passion for the great outdoors. He enjoyed hiking around southern Alberta and undertook projects to identify the songbirds and flowering plants of the area. Sharp was one of the founding members of the Lethbridge Naturalists’ Society.

Following high school, he studied biology at the University of Alberta. In 1962, he started teaching at Lethbridge Junior College. When the U of L was established, Sharp became an assistant professor in biology in 1969. After enjoying a 25-year teaching career, Sharp retired in 1994. A full obituary can be found online at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

As he requested, no funeral service will be held but a memorial gathering has been scheduled at Cornerstone Funeral Home, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

The U of L will lower its flag on the weekend in honour of Sharp.
