The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and former colleagues of Dhillon School of Business retired faculty member Barry Stannard, who passed away May 19, 2025 at the age of 78.
Stannard came to the University of Lethbridge later in his life, after retiring from military service, and began teaching operations management courses in 2000. In all, he taught for 17 years, retiring in July 2017. His passion for teaching and genuine care for his students left a lasting impression. Equally important to him were the friendships he built with his colleagues. He genuinely cherished the time spent in thoughtful conversation, respectful collaboration and shared laughter.
Born in the United Kingdom, Stannard and his family came to Lethbridge when he was 10 years old. In 1966, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served in the Air Force filling a multitude of roles. As a navigator, he was rewarded the Jorge Chavez Medal in recognition for rescue operations in the Peru earthquake of May 31, 1970.
