The University of Lethbridge is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a currrent employee. The University extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Barb Geiger, who passed away on Wednesday, May 10 at the age of 64.

An accountant by trade, Barb worked as a controller for oil and gas companies before joining ULethbridge in June 2016. As a financial analyst in Financial Services, she worked on Science Commons during its construction. Once that project was completed, she worked in Endowments and Trust, helping to turn donations into endowments that are available in perpetuity to support ULethbridge students.

“She was very good to work with, very precise and on point, which is to say she had this unique way of just getting it,” says Anastasia Pavlova, a colleague of Geiger’s in Financial Services.

Recently, Barb split her time between Financial Services and the Faculty of Education, where she served as a financial officer.

“She was friends with everybody,” says Anastasia. “She was a pleasure to work with and that’s why we’ll miss her so much.”

Her colleagues and friends across campus are invited to send their condolences to presidentsoffice@uleth.ca. The University will ensure these messages are passed along to her family.

Employees can access additional support in coping with this loss through the Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP).

An obituary is available online at Martin Brothers. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, July 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Pioneers Cabin, 9430 Scona Rd. NW in Edmonton. The University will lower its flags on that day in honour of Geiger.
