Condolence Notice — Akira Ichikawa

The University of Lethbridge expresses its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of professor emeritus Akira Ichikawa, who passed away at his Lethbridge home on January 3, 2023 at the age of 84.

Ichikawa was born in the United States and grew up primarily in Seattle, WA. He earned a bachelor's from the University of Washington before serving in the U.S. Army Reserve in both California and Georgia. He returned to school and earned a master's and PhD from the University of Minnesota. He joined the University of Lethbridge as a professor in the Department of Political Science in 1968 and served in that role until his retirement in 1998.

A Memorial Service with livestream will be held at the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta on Saturday, January 14, 2023. The University will lower its flag on the day of his service.
