Cephalopods as jewels

Dr. Jennifer Mather recently presented Cephalopods as Jewels at the Cephalopod International Advisory Council conference. The Lethbridge area is known for its ammonite fossils, which are the source of Alberta's gemstone — ammolite. The ammonite fossils are the remains of Placenticeras meeki and Placenticeras intercalare cephalopods, which flourished in the Cretaceous period. Ammolite is also known as Iniskim, or Sacred Buffalo Stone, and is the University's Blackfoot name.
