Celebrating National Nursing Week

National Nursing Week begins on Monday, May 9 and ends on Sunday, May 15. The week is the annual celebration of Florence Nightingale’s birth on May 12, which is celebrated around the world as International Nurses Day.

The Canadian Nurses Association (CSA) has themed National Nursing Week 2022 #WeAnswerTheCall to highlight the many roles nurses play in a patient’s health-care journey. Perhaps this has never been more apparent than during the last two years, where nurses everywhere have stepped up to meet the incredible demands of a global pandemic. Most nurses don’t want to be celebrated as “heroes,” but they do welcome the realization that the knowledge of nursing matters — and that this knowledge makes a difference in every part of the health-care system every minute of every day — pandemic or not.

National Nursing Week is also a time to celebrate the many different faces of nursing, including clinicians, researchers, educators, administrators, policy advocates and health-system leaders. Nursing is a profession of possibility and a profession that Answers the Call in so many different ways!

At ULethbridge, we are proud to educate some of the finest future nursing professionals in Canada.

To all nurses, we say thank you.
