July 10, 2016 - Canada Post has withdrawn its 72 hour lock out notice and for the time being both sides are focusing efforts on serious negotiations. Mail service will continue for the time being at normal levels.
Canada Post has issued a 72 hour lock out notice to their employees that could impact mail deliveries as early as Friday July 8, 2016, or anytime thereafter until an agreement is reached. In preparation for a service disruption, please note the following:
- Sending packages/goods: Time sensitive, critical or urgent shipments can still be made using courier. All others should be held at your office until the work disruption has ended and service is restored.
- Sending letter mail: Time sensitive, critical or urgent letter mail can delivered using courier if originals are needed. Alternative delivery methods such as e-mail, fax, or hand delivery can be used where possible. Please exercise caution to avoid emailing sensitive information.
- Vendor payments: Cheque runs will continue each Thursday, with electronic payments being made for direct deposit vendors and physical cheques produced and held for pick up / alternative delivery methods. Vendors who elect not to sign up for direct deposit or pick up their cheque can opt for their payment to be couriered to them at their cost.
If a lock-out does take effect any mail currently in the U of L delivery system will be held until the end of the work action. Materials Management will continue to monitor the situation and update as new information becomes available.
