For the past few decades, Indigenous students and staff at Iniskim, University of Lethbridge, have annually undertaken the duty to put on an Indigenous Awareness Week bringing Indigenous speakers, scholars, cultural educational events and talent showcases.
In view of the upcoming strategic plan, where ‘inclusion’ is one of the main goals, and the challenge by President Dr. Digvir Jayas to the University community to demonstrate how we are responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Committee Calls to Action, the Office of the Vice-Provost for Iniskim Indigenous Relations would like to encourage all facets of the University to engage in, sponsor or put on activities during Indigenous Awareness Week, March 11-15, 2024.
Coordination, overlapping activities, and so on from different parts of the University should not be considered a hindrance. The more activities, the more choice attendees can choose from. Indigenous awareness, campus-wide, gives an opportunity to the University community to demonstrate how it is responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action.
Thank you.
