Call for Abstracts
The Symposium is sponsored by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Lethbridge. The mandate of the symposium and associated poster prize is to recognize undergraduate and graduate students performing original research in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. All students who have participated in research in the Department are encouraged to participate. To particularly encourage junior students in their research endeavors, the Chinook Poster Prizes have been established at the undergraduate and Master’s levels.

Registered Authors will compete, if eligible, for Poster prizes (first $300, second $100) in one of the following four categories:
- Chinook Poster Prize in Chemistry – B.Sc. level
- Chinook Poster Prize in Chemistry – M.Sc. level
- Chinook Poster Prize in Biochemistry – B.Sc. level
- Chinook Poster Prize in Biochemistry – M.Sc. level
Eligibility for undergraduate level competitions – Authors must be currently enrolled in the B.Sc. program, or have completed their degree requirements no earlier than the Spring term 2014, and have conducted the research presented at the Symposium under the supervision or co-supervision of a member of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Eligibility for the M.Sc. level competitions – Authors must be currently enrolled in the M.Sc. program, or have entered the Ph.D. program after the Spring term 2014, and have conducted the research presented at the Symposium under the supervision of a member of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Eligibility for the Ph.D. level competition - Authors must be currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program as of the Spring term 2014, and have conducted the research presented at the Symposium under the supervision of a member of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Ph.D. level authors must submit an abstract AND present a poster.
Two Ph.D. candidates will be selected, based on abstracts submitted, to give a 20 minute Chinook Research Excellence Keynote Lecture in (Bio)Chemistry. Of the two presenters (1 Chem, 1 Bchm) one will be awarded the “Loren Hepler Gold Medal for Ph.D. Research Excellence”.
