The abhorrent discovery of the remains of 215 children at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops is a time for grieving and reflection. The University of Lethbridge is lowering all flags on its Lethbridge campus starting tomorrow morning, and until further notice, in memory of these children.
Canada’s residential school system history is one we must never forget. This sobering event should cause pause. It is important to remember the thousands of children and families directly impacted by Canada’s residential school system and reflect upon the negative impact this dark period has had on our communities and our country as a whole to this day.
I know this event is extremely upsetting for many members of our community. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, please reach out to Counselling Services or the Employee and Family Assistance Program.
