Taking a pause to remember on National Day of Mourning

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

Today, on this National Day of Mourning, we take pause to remember those workers who have lost their lives or been injured or become ill on the job or due to a work-related tragedy.

Our people here at the University of Lethbridge are our greatest asset and, over the years, we have been touched by tragedy and shared in the grief of families who have been affected by work-related incidents. It is important to recognize those people today, as well as the many others throughout our community who have lost loved ones in tragic circumstances.

This National Day of Mourning is especially meaningful during times such as these, when so many workers have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to put their lives at risk.

As we lower our flags today, I urge everyone to take a moment at 11 a.m. to reflect on those we have lost, and to renew our collective commitment to continue improving health and safety standards in our workplace to prevent further injuries, illnesses and deaths.
