DEPARTMENT of ECONOMICS -- SEMINAR SERIES

This event is from the archives of The Notice Board. The event has already taken place and the information contained in this post may no longer be relevant or accurate.

The purpose of the seminar is to highlight the contributions of Myrdal and Hayek and the lasting impact their ideas have had.

SPEAKERS:  DAN Le ROY (Friedrich Hayek) & JEREMIAH ALLEN, Professor Emeritus (Gunner Myrdal)

TOPIC:  THE LASTING POWER OF IDEAS: The 1974 Prize in Economic Science in Memory of Alfred Nobel

Forty years ago, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the "Prize in Economic Science in Memory of Alfred Nobel" would be awarded to both GUNNER MYRDAL and FRIEDRICH HAYEK for their pioneering work in the theory of money and economic fluctuations and for their penetrating analysis of the interdependence of economic, social and institutional phenomena.  Arguably, there have never been less compatible and more controversial co-recipients of the prize.
