The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Peter Williams, who passed away April 17 at age 76 following a five-year battle with cancer.
Williams served on the U of L Board of Governors from 1991 to 1997 and was the Board’s representative on the University Senate from 1991 to 1994.
Born in Cheltenham, England, Williams emigrated to Toronto in 1965 and was hired by Gilbey Canada. He was transferred to Palliser Distillers, now Black Velvet Distilling, in Lethbridge in 1973. He became the plant manager in 1990, overseeing the installation of computerized stills. An active member of the community, Williams was a member of the Lethbridge Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce and the Knights of Columbus, in addition to his involvement with the U of L. He was transferred to California in 1999, where he remained until 2002. Upon retiring, he relocated to Vancouver Island.
A leader and mentor who inspired confidence, Williams is remembered for his easy-going ways and his ability to make friends wherever he went.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
