Jonathan Haidt has argued that a university can pursue either a) the current politically correct conception of social justice or b) truth, but not both. In 2014 the University of Chicago explicitly decided on the latter. Hence the so-called Chicago Principles (CP). The Government of Alberta has recently insisted that Alberta colleges and universities follow the U of Chicago's lead. Critics argue that c) the CP is a solution in search of a problem, and that d) its adoption would legitimize hate speech. Defenders argue that our own Tony Hall affair refutes both of these objections.
