Tony Montina (BSc ’08, MSc ’10) has been appointed interim director, Science Commons Academic Operations, effective October 1 for a period of nine months. He will act as a liaison between science faculty/staff and Science Facilities to support the operationalization of Science Commons. This will involve working on key initiatives related to the implementation of shared/common and core research facilities, as well as space planning related to both teaching and research needs. In addition to his new role, Montina will continue to act as the director of the Magnetic Resonance Facility and instructor within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

“We are delighted to have Tony join the Dean’s Office team,” says Dr. Matthew Letts, interim dean for the Faculty of Arts and Science. “Tony’s involvement in the Destination Project has been instrumental from the initial design phase all the way to the official opening of Science Commons. His experience running the magnetic resonance facility has uniquely positioned him to be successful in this role, as he has built important relationships that will be valuable in promoting our transdisciplinary vision.”

“Tony has been a collaborative force on this project from the beginning,” says Gene Lublinkhof, director, science facilities. “He has lent a hand in many aspects of this project and has been working on various initiatives with my office. I’m happy to work with Tony on improving operational strategies in Science Commons.”

“Over the past several years, there has been a flurry of activity related to both the planning and construction phases of the new building and this culminated last summer as we moved into the new space,” says Montina. “I look forward to working with my colleagues as we continue to adapt and grow how we deliver our teaching and research programs in the new Science Commons.”
