The University of Lethbridge extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Robert Church (LLD ’98) who passed away Friday, Sept. 6 at the age of 82.

Church was a man of many talents — an educator, medical scientist, cattleman and entrepreneur. A latter-day Renaissance man, he built an international reputation on his scientific achievements and his talent for developing new products and services in response to customer demand.

Church joined the faculty at the University of Calgary in 1967 and, from 1969 to 1983, he was a professor and founding head of the Department of Medical Biochemistry. He was a pioneer in the application of the modern techniques of biotechnology to animal reproduction. His expertise made him a sought-after consultant on medical technologies, biotechnology, embryo manipulation and livestock management business worldwide.

More information about Church can be found online in a column written by Licia Corbella.

A celebration of Church’s life has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Foothills Alliance Church, located at 333 Edgepark Blvd. NW in Calgary. The U of L will lower its flag that day in honour of Church.
