The Faculty of Fine Arts is pleased to invite the community (campus & external) to submit full proposals for participation in the annual Crossing Boundaries Symposium, to be held at the University of Lethbridge on October 26, 2019.
The theme of this year’s symposium is Languages | Landscapes | Algorithms.
The symposium day will be broken up into different sections of presentations, exhibition installations, table-top displays, performances, and discussions.
Crossing Boundaries Mission

to share established and emerging innovators from the creative fields, with the community (campus & external) in a direct and engaging way;

to activate cultural discourse, educate, and enable open dialogue and collaboration on varying topics and perspectives across different disciplines; and

to showcase the diversity and interdisciplinary nature of the professional creative world.
Submit a Full Proposal
Full proposal submissions are due March 22.
Guidelines for Submission
The Faculty of Fine Arts encourages faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduate students from across the University of Lethbridge, as well as alumni and community members at large to submit a proposal.
Please include all materials and equipment that you are proposing to use for your activity and are able to provide yourself, as well as any possible technical requests and requirements related to your proposal. If you are proposing an installation or performance, please also include any layout specifications and space requirements related to your proposal.
General Submission Requirements
- Full Name(s)
- Faculty and Department, Unit, or Affiliation
- Position (e.g. undergraduate student, graduate student, faculty member, alumni, researcher, visual artist)
- Biography for the group or individual
- Indicate format you wish to choose for your proposal
- Description of Activity/Presentation
Format
We encourage you to submit a proposal for the format that works best for you. Presentations, performances, workshops, tours, and round-tables will have a maximum 30-minute time limit (including short Q&A). Below is a list of possible formats:
- Individual Presentation: one person presenting a topic related to the symposium theme, followed by a brief Q&A at the end of the presentation.
- Performance: a solo or group performance. You will be responsible for any materials, performers and costs associated with your performance (please review Guidelines for Submission and Technical Requirements sections for more details).
- Exhibition: a solo/group exhibition proposal or table-top display - please note if your proposal is accepted, your work will be shown concurrently with other projects. You will be responsible for any materials and costs associated with your exhibition works (please review Guidelines for Submission and Technical Requirements section for more details).
- Round-table session: you will facilitate a discussion on a chosen topic.
- Mini-workshop, lab or studio space tour (on-campus only): You will be responsible for any materials and costs associated with your activity (please review Guidelines for Submission and Technical Requirements section for more details). Please indicate if your workshop or tour has a maximum registrant capacity.
Technical Requirements and Requests
Please indicate your technical requirements by completing all fields that are relevant to your project. Computing and unique interface technology (e.g., laptop, desktop, adaptors) will not be provided. If your project requires a specific layout of equipment and participants, please include a description or schematic.
Include all materials and equipment that you are proposing to use for your activity and are able to provide yourself, as well as any possible technical requests and requirements related to your proposal. Please note: Although the University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Arts will try to accommodate equipment and space requests, participants are ultimately responsible for ensuring they have the proper materials for their activity and should be fully prepared with their own gear. Requests for an excess amount of supplementary equipment may result in the submission being rejected.
