The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and coworkers of Jesara Nichol (BA ’17), who passed away suddenly due to complications from pneumonia on Monday, Dec. 17 at the age of 24.

Nichol was employed as a Residence Life and Education Coordinator in Housing Services. When she moved from Calgary to attend the U of L, she became a residence assistant, working on a casual basis as a student from September 2013 to May 2017. She joined the staff on a full-time basis starting in August 2017.

“She was well loved by everyone and this is definitely a big loss to our department,” says Steve Brodrick, director of Housing Services. “She was a dedicated professional and a fantastic ambassador for the U of L and Residence Life.”

Blessed with a bubbly personality, Nichol exuded warmth and positivity with her infectious energy. She was a great listener who knew exactly how to best support her student staff. Nichol was also an exemplary role model and a leader among her peers.

She was part of the U of L LEAD (learn, educate, act, dare) team that won two out of three awards, including the Institution Citizenship award, at the recent Residence Life Professional Association conference.

A full obituary is available online at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church located at 10827 24 St. SW in Calgary.

The U of L will lower its flag in honour of Nichol.
