Tunnel repairs nearly complete

The long-awaited opening of the University’s pedestrian tunnel, rotunda and south plaza hallway is tentatively scheduled for January 4, 2019.

The tunnel’s new concrete floor was recently poured and is currently in the curing stage, while removal of the structural steel supporting the tunnel throughout the renovations is ongoing. Once inspected and approved, the tunnel and its various access points will be reopened for traffic.

Further landscaping work will continue on the exterior of the Students’ Union Building through the first week of classes, with the sidewalk east of the SUB fenced and closed. This work will not impede access to the pedestrian tunnel or the Upper Devonian Pathway and full indoor/outdoor access between upper and lower campus will be restored.

Facilities thanks everyone for their patience throughout this challenging restoration project. The safety and security of everyone who utilizes campus is the primary consideration of any such work and necessitated a longer timeline than anticipated.
