Monday, November 5
Canada Post received strike notice from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) which began rotating strikes on Monday, October 22, 2018 in a series of one- or two-day operations shutdowns. The Lethbridge Canada Post operation was included in the most recent shutdown, reported on November 5, 2018.
For the duration of the rotating shutdowns, the University of Lethbridge has implemented a contingency plan to minimize business interruption on campus. Accounts Payable will hold cheque payments for pick-up instead of sending them through Canada Post until this situation improves, and advises if you have receipts or payment requests to be processed, please encourage your vendors to sign up for direct deposit to avoid delays in receiving payment.
Faculties and departments should consider the impact this potential change in postal services will have for their operation and consider making alternative arrangements for correspondence and goods to be delivered or received to and from campus that may be urgent or time sensitive. Examples of this would be to use e-mail, fax, courier, or hand delivery of anything that you may normally send via post. Financial Services continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as new information becomes available.
