In support of the Hirsche, Boulet, Pronghorns and Humboldt Broncos hockey families, please wear your favourite jersey on Thursday, Apr. 12, 2018 - no matter the colour or team. We join communities across Canada taking part in Jersey Day.
Last weekend, our community lost two young, promising men who had made an undeniable mark on our city. Countless others nationwide are mourning the loss of their brothers, sons, fathers, teammates, family members and friends following the Broncos bus collision April 6.
We remember Logan Boulet for his selflessness on and off the ice. Toby (BEd ’89, MEd ’04), Bernadine (BEd ’88) and Mariko Boulet (BSc ’17) lost their son and brother, a defenseman for the Humboldt Broncos who had been accepted to attend our university this fall.
We also remember Brock Hirsche for his leadership and fearlessness on the ice as the captain of the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns hockey team and for the bravery he displayed to our community after he was diagnosed with cancer. Knowing that he only had a finite time left, Brock continued to lead. With a commitment to those who will play for the Pronghorns for years to come, he established a scholarship in which he has helped raise $30,000.
The families of Brock Hirsche and Logan Boulet should be proud of the sons they raised; the city and university communities are extremely proud of them, too.
