World Mental Health Day

This event is from the archives of The Notice Board. The event has already taken place and the information contained in this post may no longer be relevant or accurate.

World Mental Health Day is Tuesday, October 10: a day for continued global mental health awareness, education and advocacy. On this day, supporters gather to create more awareness and attention towards mental health. There continues to be an increasing need to provide information on coping strategies and information for emotional wellness. The Light Up Purple campaign was created in honor of Amanda Todd and her memory. Faculty, Staff, and Students are encouraged to wear purple to show solidarity and help us recognize and promote more awareness about mental health, mental illness and mental wellness on campus. The Student Success Centre will host a table in the UCA Atrium from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with mental health resources, a plinko game, a whiteboard campaign, and a Make Your Own Stress Ball activity.

Other ways to get involved:

  • talk to your family, friends, and colleagues about mental health issues
  • discuss World Mental Health day in class and with your students
  • take a selfie or group photo with your purple attire and post to social media with #lightuppurple OR #worldmentalhealthday AND #uleth
  • get informed about the available mental health resources on campus and in the community
  • stop or drive by Lethbridge City Hall: the building will be lit up with purple lights to show support
  • consider taking a mental health training workshop and encourage others to join you
