Homecoming - Last Lecture, sponsored by the ULSU

If you had just one last lecture to give, what would you say? That’s the question the Last Lecture series poses. A highlight of the Students’ Union’s Teaching Excellence Awards, the Last Lecture allows for professors and instructors to reflect and impart their lessons of life and academia under the pretense of only having one last lecture to give.

At Homecoming, Sonya von Heyking (BMgt ’03), director of the CPA Bridging Program and an accounting instructor in the Faculty of Management and biological sciences Chair Dr. Joseph Rasmussen will present in a special edition of the Last Lecture.

Describing herself as an accidental accountant, von Heyking takes a look outside of her vocation to lessons we all need a refresher in, reflecting back on a life and career that is peppered with triumphs and tragedies. Her story, she says, will be one of hope, reliance, seriousness and humour.

A native Albertan, Dr. Joseph Rasmussen’s research into the effects of pollution on water systems has challenged what was then taken as the conventional wisdom. His talk will take a journey from his childhood and adolescence experiences to show how his drive for finding solutions no one has ever thought of has evolved.
