Members of the University considering travel to major urban centres on February 20th are advised that demonstrations to protest a number of controversial executive orders recently signed by President Trump have been planned.
Rallies are expected in several cities nationwide, including Washington, DC, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City. Travellers are advised to liaise with local contacts for information on protests in the area of your travel and consider avoiding such areas as a precaution.
Should you inadvertently be placed in a situation where the police or protesters begin to gather nearby, immediately and calmly vacate the area. Anticipate localized disruption to travel in the area of the protest and monitor US alerts via the International SOS membership portal. Membership login numbers are available by calling Campus Safety at 403-329-2549, or by visiting the Security office. Please have your University ID number on hand for registration.
Information and advice on travel is also available by contacting Toby Clark, Risk and Insurance Advisor, at 403-329-2099 or clarkt@uleth.ca, who is available during regular office hours.
Students are reminded to review the Student Safety Abroad Policy (download below) prior to participating in any university activity outside of Canada. All students must register their travel plans with the University through the Campus Safety Travel Abroad Registry and obtain the required authorizations to travel.
