Currently Dr. Blewett is working with Prof. Greg Goss at the University of Alberta. She investigates the effect and exposure biomarkers of hydraulic fracturing flow back and produced water in the sensitive aquatic model species, rainbow trout and Daphnia magna. Hydraulic fracturing flow back is the ultimate toxicological mixture, containing various organics, salts, metals, and natural isotopes. In association with an industrial partner (Encana), Dr. Blewett will be delineating the mechanistic effects on endocrine systems, oxidative stress, and metabolism of these combined mixtures.
