An Invitation to the Tobacco Offering Circle!
To be led by members of the Blackfoot Confederacy who are Residential School Survivors
From the Director of Iikaisskini Gathering Place, Dr. Martha Many Grey Horses
To every generation of youth comes an opportunity to contribute to the prosperities of humanity, an opportunity unique to their generation. For the youth of today the moment has come to reflect, commit and obtain an education on Canada’s epic 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report. Learning about its findings will allow them to develop their talents and abilities in such a way that each one can make a contribution that will enhance the quality of life for FNMI members, their families, communities and the nation.
Together the students, staff and faculty will begin the academic year 2016 – 2017 with a tobacco offering circle. We will pray for the residential school survivors and their offspring as well as for the TRC work that will be undertaken by the University of Lethbridge in the coming year.
My old people said, when people assemble together for a gathering open to all, the goal is harmony between different people working in cooperation towards achievement a common vision. This is an illustration of the rich diversity of humanity and of efforts to nourishing those cultural differences that bring us together. Respect for each other’s views and an understanding of the common humanity we share - this is what matters. This is the basis, the motivation to resolve the spiritual, social and economic challenges facing humanity.
We, the TRC committee at U of L, are happy you could join us in the tobacco offering circle to pray for a better world for the residential school survivors, their kin, all FNMI, all people and our TRC work.
