Risky topics like war must be made understandable and accessible if young people are to engage in history, learn from it, and want to study more.
Using her own books as examples, (The Secret of Gabi.s Dresser, Restitution, Shanghai Escape, and others), award winning children.s author, Kathy Kacer, will address the issue of how to explore the Holocaust and other sensitive topics with young people. Kathy Kacer is the child of Holocaust survivors. Her parents’ stories of survival inspired her to write about this time in history for young people.
Presented by the F.E.I. Priestley Lecture series, in association with the Faculty of Education and The Institute for Child and Youth Studies (I-CYS) of the University of Lethbridge.
