“CKXU 88.3 FM Presents: FUNdrive 2015 "POWER THE TOWER!"

Lethbridge, (March 20, 2015) – CKXU Radio Society, a campus and community radio station in Lethbridge, Alberta, is pleased to announce that it will be embarking upon it's 9th annual FUNdrive - their week-long fundraising campaign where they actively solicit the public for donations. 

About

CKXU-FM is a Canadian Not-for-profit radio station, broadcasting at 88.3 FM, from the University of Lethbridge, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. CKXU-FM's purpose is to offer programming that is different in style and substance from the programming offered by other types of radio stations, and that reflects the diverse elements of the community they serve; To provide community access to the airwaves; To participate in and promote the communities we serve.
Currently, CKXU takes a $5 levy from each student at the University of Lethbridge which cover CKXU's human resource-related expenses; additional revenue is either garnered via fundraising activity, or comes from grant seeking. 

CKXU has three operational staff: one full-time Station Manager, one part-time Program Director, one part-time Music Director and several coordinators who work in a volunteer capacity to manage certain aspects of the organization. The CKXU Radio Society relies on steering and oversight by a board of directors, consisting of representatives from the Lethbridge community, University of Lethbridge student population, Students' Union, Graduate Students' Society, and Faculty. CKXU executes and participates in a number of annual community and student events including CKXU Presents: Love & Records, a celebration of music culture and record fair in Galt Gardens in the second week of September. 

About FUNdrive 2015 "POWER THE TOWER"

From Friday March 20th @ 9:00am until Friday March 27th @ 6:00pm CKXU's on-air broadcast content will shift to focus on gathering donations from the public, ongoing community initiatives, relationships with other community organizations, and the "CKXU Friends Program" - which is designed to stimulate and promote local economy. In return, donors to the CKXU FUNdrive receive CKXU branded swag items. Donations during FUNdrive 2015 will be allocated towards an ongoing signal upgrade project. 

As with every year, FUNdrive 2015 will be host to many fun and interesting events around the city. The 2015 list of events is as follows:

• March 20th 2015 @ The Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG), 6:00 pm - "Friends with Benefits" / Celebrating CKXU's "Friends of CKXU" program. Local business from Lethbridge enrolled in the program will be in attendance. VIP from around CKXU will speak to the importance of maintaining relationships between local business + organizations, radio plays, keynote from Myke Atkinson, Station Manager for CJSW-FM 90.1 in Calgary AB.  
• March 21st 2015 @ The Owl Acoustic Lounge, 1:30 - 4:00 pm - "Lethbridge Public Library Family Jam"
• March 21st 2015 @ Lethbridge City Hall, 2:00 - 4:00 pm - "CMARD's PANGAEA Cafe: International Day to Eliminate Racism & Discrimination"
• March 21st 2015 @ The Zoo/University of Lethbridge Students' Union, 8:00 pm - "Culus Partis" / CKXU, University of Lethbridge Graduate Students' Association, and University of Lethbridge Students' Union shows their love to the student body with a party at The Zoo! With live performances from UNO Band, Pzeudo, Acoustic Rhymers, and local hip-hop performer B Mac.
• March 22nd 2015 @ CASA, 1:00 - 5:00 pm - "Cupcake Carnival" / CKXU's Cupcake competition, with special guest judges Lethbridge Regional Police Service Chief Rob Davies and Lethbridge Public Library's CEO Tony Vanden Heuvel.  This year we have special guest performers from Gymfinity Gymnastics!  CKXU will go live to air on location at CASA with CKXU DJ, Kelly Szmaciarz's radio program "The Old Time Radio Show"
• March 26th 2015 @ The Owl Acoustic Lounge, 7:00 - 9:00 pm - "Lethbridge Public Library & CKXU Trivia Night"
• March 27th 2015 @ Heritage Hall at Exhibition Park, 5:30 - 11:00 pm - " Multicultural Potluck" / Hosted by the U of L French and Spanish Clubs as a fundraiser for Lethbridge Family Services!
• March 27th 2015 @ The Slice Bar & Grill, 8:00 pm - "CKXU Goodnight, Sweet Prince FUNdrive 2015 Grand Finale"  / CKXU's FUNdrive wrap up party featuring 4 local Lethbridge bands performing for one night only!
