Dr. Goater received his Ph.D. in 1990 from the University of Exeter, Great Britain, and joined the Dept. of Biological Sciences, at the U of L in 1997.
Intimate interactions between parasites and their hosts are ubiquitous on the Tree of Life. Yet despite the ubiquity and phenomenal biodiversity of the parasitic lifestyle, the phenomenon of parasitism is among the biotic interactions that we know least about. Cam Goater and his students utilize model systems involving fish, amphibians, ants, and mammals as hosts to understand how parasites make their living and to understand the consequences of parasitism – that range from subtle to spectacular – on the ecology and evolution of their hosts.
