What is “revolutionary love,” and how do we practice loving ourselves and others in the midst of terrifying times? Trans, non-binary, and gender diverse individuals are invited to join trauma healing expert and somatics teacher Kai Cheng Thom for a workshop for 2SLGBTQIA+ and ally students in embodied practices for personal healing, collective care, and social change.
In this session, Kai Cheng will offer participants an understanding of how somatics can be used as a resource for marginalized groups. We will explore simple yet profound skills for cultivating groundedness, inner strength, and connection. We will also explore the origins of somatics as a revolutionary practice and the ways that trans and gender diverse people experience specific forms of oppression in our bodies. Participants will leave with practical tools that they can use to support themselves and others in day-to-day life and community organizing. Please note that this is not a clinical mental health training, nor a form of group therapy.
This event is co-hosted by the Faculty of Education (Iiniookaksini) and Faculty of Fine Arts (Piiksinaasin).
