The University of Lethbridge expresses its deep condolences to the family, friends and former colleagues of former longtime ULethbridge employee Richard Tedesco, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026, at the age of 76.
Tedesco was a groundsworker in the Department of Grounds Maintenance from 1985 through to his retirement in 2011, a 26-year career during which he earned the affectionate nickname as "The Plant Guy." Well known for his role in beautifying campus, Tedesco had a special knack for helping the various plants throughout campus thrive in whatever environment they were placed.

There will be no funeral at Rick’s request. If desired, donations in Rick’s name can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories (alzheimer.ca/ab/) or a dog-related charity of your choice.
The University will lower its flag in honour of Rick on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026.
